Habitats: Litoral marshes and riparian. Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches). Marshes and salt marshes.
Characteristics: A rush that always lives in wetlands: salt-water lagoons and canals, with the rhizomes embedded in the sediment and the stems and leaves emerged above water. The stems have a triangular cross section and the leaves are rough to the touch. The inflorescences are produced at the top end of the stems, they are large, up to 4 cm in length, and other Scirpus species that live in these habitats do not have inflorescences this long. Some species of the genus Cyperus have long and dark inflorescences, but they are flattened in appearance.
