Habitats: Cultivated fields, path and road sides, disturbed zones. Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches). Humid soils.

Characteristics: A Gramene with a rhizome, it has a very long inflorescence with all the branches stuck on the stem meanwhile it is immature. When the spikelets ripen then the branches open up forming quite an open panicle. Unlike other species of Polypogon it does not have awns in the spikelets, neither does the inflorescence have a silky look or feel. It lives in slightly moist places. It flowers at the end of summer and in winter.
