Reichardia intermedia Schultz Bip.

Family: COMPOSITAE (ASTERACEAE)

Genus: Reichardia

Sinònims: Reichardia picroides (L.) Roth subsp. intermedia (Schultz Bip.) Jah. et Maire

Province distribution: Balearic Islands.

Distribution in the islands: Mallorca.

IUCN Category: LCLeast concern

Life-forms: Terophyte.

Habitats: Cultivated fields, path and road sides, disturbed zones. Wild olive trees and other sclerophyllous shrublands. Juniperus phoenicea subsp. turbinata forest. Pine wood and shrubland with rosemary and thyme garigue. Therophytic calicole fields.

Characteristics: This Compositae with yellow capitula can be distinguished from other species with similar morphologies because of the small bracts outside the capitula. These bracts have an upside-down heart-shape, and they also often appear on the leaf-stalk holding the capitulum. The intermedia subspecies can be distinguished from the typical subspecies because it is of annual cycle instead of being perennial, and because of its scarcely divided leaves. It lives in clearings in garrigues (Mediterranean woodland). It flowers in spring.
