Characteristics: A Graminea that can reach up to a metre in height, an inhabitant of very wet soils, lives alongside torrents, canals and seawater ponds. Forms a open, pyramidal panicle; spikelets loose which are sometimes tinged with violet. Does not form very dense thatches. Subspecies sylvicola, which can also be found in the Balearic Islands, has a stubbier, more ovoid panicle and a thicker rhizome. Flowers at the end of spring and during the summer.
