Characteristics: An aquatic plant with leaves submerged (petiolate) and floating, sparse, oblong, coriaceous and opaque. Differs from P. coloratus as this later species has thin and translucent leaves. The inflorescence projects out of the water, and is a short spike (3-5 cm.) and with compact, discrete flowers.
