Characteristics: A perennial rhizomatous plant with cylindrical stems. The inflorescence is formed by small brown spikes that are found above the peduncle, all of the peduncles and the spikelets emerge at the upper part of the stems, accompanied by a bract that resembles a prolongation of the stem. Can be differentiated form other Scirpus by its cylindrical, not triangular stems.
