Characteristics: A composite plant with spiny leaves and purple flowers. Characteristic are the leaves that take a whitish colour at the margin and the reverse due to their dense pilosity the face has rigid spiny looking setae. The capitula are large and round and sre also covered by a dense pilosity. Can be differentiated from Cirsium vulgare subsp. crinitum as this latter the leaves descend from the stem giving it a spiny -winged stem in appearance.
