Characteristics: A composite plant with spiny leaves and purple flowers, also with spiny bracts. Characteristic are its elliptic petiolated basal leaves in the form of a rosette, and the much more spiny caulines that envolve the stem. In addition, the leaves have white veins on the face. The capitula are exceeded by very spiny involucre leaves.
