Characteristics: A prostate herb with thick, opposite leaves with membranous stipules. The flowers have pink petals with a white base; when it bears fruit it forms an ovoid capsule which is longer than the sepals. It is very similar to all the Spergularia, and can live with other species. It can be distinguished by its capsule, larger than the rest, and because only some seeds have a membranous wing (all are winged in (Spergularia maritima whereas the other species do not have wings). It lives on the coast, generally in slightly sandy, saline soils.
