Characteristics: A plant that looks like a small spiny bush lives along beaches or in degraded zones. Leaves are stiff, succulent and end in a leaf spine, the entire plant is green in colour, although when it dies, its dried remains can also be found along the ground. Subspecies ruthenica differs from subspecies kali, as the former doesn't have while the latter does have hairs.
