Description: A bush or small tree that can grow up to 8 m tall, and remains green year round. Leaves are simple and alternate, with a simple margin, brilliant green on the reverse; the petiole is 0.5 to 1 cm in length and when examining against the light, you can see many small yellow spots that are essence glands. The flowers are borne on the leaf axils, they are small sized and white. The fruit is fleshy, the size of a pea, at first green in colour and then maturing to a dark purple.

Observations: The genus name, Myoporum, is a composite word of Greek origin; derived from myo: close and porus: orfice, and makes reference to the scent vesicles that open and close within the leaf.
