Characteristics: A perennial plant with prostrate stems (up to 60 cm.), which branch from the base and nodes that can bear roots. The stems lacking leaves at the basal section and are densely foliose towards the apex. Leaves are alternate open towards the exterior and green in colour. Flowers are axillary and not very showy, in bunches of 1-3. The ocrea (the tubular sheath at the base of the petiole) is transparent and very divided (laciniate).
Observations: The vegetative characteristics are greatly variable, and an example in fructification is indispensable for correct identification.
