Habitats: Hedges. Mesophyll mountainous grasslands. Herbaceous communities in wet areas, on basic substrate, at least temporarily waterlogged.
Characteristics: Bulbous, robust plant of variable size, with an erect flowering stem, variable in length (up to 75 cm tall). All leaves are basal, flat, strap-shaped, glabrous, and 5-8 mm wide. Flowers are usually solitary, large, and showy, with tepals spreading perpendicularly, deep yellow in colour; the corona, of the same colour, is nearly cylindrical and as long as the tepals (17-38 mm). The fruit is a rounded capsule with three compartments, which releases the seeds in May.
Observations: Floral characters are very important in this species, as the subspecies of Narcissus pseudonarcissus are distinguished by the size of the different floral parts.
