Characteristics: Moist forests and their borders such as beechwoods, fir woods, hazelwoods, alderwoods, etc. A caespitose plant with intense green leaves, shorter than the stem, which is strongly triagonal. The inferior bract has a well developed sheath. Bears male and female spikes, each in a different manner: the females are pendulous, 5-7 cm in length. The utricles are glabrous, trigonal and greenish with a beak. Differs from subsp. paui by its more narrow leaves, (less than 6 mm), arched and short stems (less than 80 cm), 1-2 male spikes and with the peduncles of the female spikes exceeding the length of the sheath.
