Habitats: Cultivated fields, path and road sides, disturbed zones. Therophytic calicole fields. Rocky surfaces and dry stone walls. Road sides and dry soils.
Characteristics: A small sized annual plant not very visible, yellow in colour. The entire plant is covered by small hairs that give it a rough aspect. Leaves are rounded and opposite. Flowers are very small with white petals smaller than the sepals. The capsule emerges from the calyx.
Observations: C. semidecandrum is a very morphologically variable species and for this reason, many subspecies and varieties have been described. The variety sennenii is characterized by having almost all foliaceous bracts and the petals are shorter or only slightly longer than the stamins.
