Characteristics: A caespitose plant with more than two spikes per stem; normally with one male and the rest females. The lower female spike is upon a large and filiforme peduncle that emerges from the base of the stem. The vesicle surrounding the seeds (utricle) is pubescent and with a beak at the terminal part; the sheath forming bract (glumes) are dark grey with a whitish border.
