    Description : This is an evergreen tree that can grow to over 30 m in height, with a very dense canopy that is either round or conical in shape. Bark is greyish to light brown, scaly. Young branches are orange in colour and covered with a rust coloured pubescence. Leaves are large, 15 to 25 cm In length and 6-9 cm in width, petiolate, leathery, elliptic or oval with a smooth or undulate outline, the obverse is brilliant green in colour the reverse side a dull green, with a very marked central nerve. Showy flowers, 20-25 cm in diameter, very aromatic. Petals are fleshy, oval and creamy white. Fruits are turgid, ovoid or oval, and look like a brownish- coloured, small pineapple. These fruits are 5-7.5 cm in length; the open follicles release the seeds, which are red in colour.
