Description : A deciduous tree, reaching up to 15-20 m in height, with a more or less irregular crown. The trunk is also frequently irregular. Small branches covered with abundant hairs, with simple leaves, alternate and 3 to 10 cm in length, very little petiole, with the margin more or less lobed, with the lobes generally pointed. The leaves upon emergence are pubescent on the obverse, but these hairs disappear, and the leaf becomes an intense green while the reverse is a dull greenish-grey due to the dense hairs. The female flowers are usually solitary. The fruit, the acorn, when mature is a clear brown and pubescent.
