    Characteristics : Examine the leaf of this plant against the light, and you can see that it is covered with translucent glands, giving it a ?perforated? appearance, and its species name. Hypericum perfoliatum is a closely related species that lives in the same habitats, with rounded leaf bases, yet few or none of these translucent glands are found on the leaves of this species.
