Habitats: Xero-acanthic shrubs of the mountanous regions, and steppe-grasslands of Ampelodesmos mauritanica. Stony and windy areas of the mountains of Mallorca.
Characteristics: A extensively branched and spiny bush in the shape of a cushion, lives preferably in the rocky areas in the mountains. Has small elongate leaves, slightly larger at the top half. Flowers ares mall and yellow. Pertains to the same group as Rhamnus oleoides, which is also present in the islands, althought this latter species lives in the lower, drier, and warmer elevations; has a tree like appearance that can reach up top two metres in height. Flowers at the beginning of spring.
