Description: Trees can reach up to 15 m in height, with a dark bark that fissures with age. Young branches have a yellowish or reddish bark, very long and hanging, at times almost reaching the ground. Leaves are about 10 cm in length, alternate, linear or lanceolate, pointed or serrate, hairless at maturity. Petiole is 3-5 mm in length. Flowers are sessile or only slightly pedunculate, and are often borne before the leaves emerge.
Observations: The name Salix makes reference to the tendency or this plant to grow in wet soils.
