Description: An evergreen tree 5-6m high, it has a rounded crown and branches with long, flexible thorns. The leaves are bright green, eliptical or lanceolate, 7-10cm long and 4-8cm wide and have an acute tip. The flowers are white, solitary and very fragrant. The fleshy fruit is rounded, 7-10cm in diameter, with thick, rough orangey-coloured skin, covered completely in glandular vesicles which contain an aromatic liquid.

Observations: The species name aurantium refers to the golden colour of its fruits and is derived from the Latin word auratus meaning golden.
