Characteristics: An herbaceous plant found in fields at the end of spring, has fairly large umbels with yellow flowers; leaves are composite with wide leaves that remind one of those of the celery plant. Fennel is also an Umbelliferae with yellow flowers, but it ears no other resemblance, as it flowers much latter on in the year and its leaves are divided into deep, irregular lobes.
