Characteristics: Herbaceous plant found along running water, lives normally with its roots in flooded sediments, although it can also be found in flooded soils. An upright plant with opposed lanceolate leaves without petiole. The superior structure is branched and where the inflorescences are located. The flowers are small (5 mm); pink with violet veins, and like all Veronica, has four petals with the inferior ones much smaller than the others. It can be told apart from Veronica anagallis-aquatica because this later specie has bluish flowers larger than 5 mm, and glabrous, while Veronica catenata is pubescent (many authors consider it best that these two examples be considered as subspecies). Veronica beccabunga, which also olives in torrents, has ovate leaves with indentations very distinct form the others that we have made comment. Flowers at the end of spring.
