Characteristics: This fern is small and tenuous, with almost transparent leaves. Lives in shady spots amongst the moss-covered rocks. It has two types of leaves: wide broad basal leaves and others which rise above the ground surface and are more narrow in width; these latter leaves are fertile, while the basal leaves may or may not bear the sporangia. Often the prothallus can be found at the base of the plant.
