Habitats: Wild olive trees and other sclerophyllous shrublands. Juniperus phoenicea subsp. turbinata forest. Tree heather maquis and silicolous garigues. Pine wood and shrubland with rosemary and thyme garigue. Therophytic silicolous fields. Cultivated fields, path and road sides.

Characteristics: This is one of the most frequent Carex found in garrigues (Mediterranean woodland) and forest areas. It can be recognised by the yellowy colour of the leaves which are rather hard and shorter than the stalk. It has male spikes at the top; the female ones are underneath, these are a dark colour.
