Characteristics: This is one of the most frequent Carex found in garrigues (Mediterranean woodland) and forest areas. It can be recognised by the yellowy colour of the leaves which are rather hard and shorter than the stalk. It has male spikes at the top; the female ones are underneath, these are a dark colour.
