Characteristics: Perennial subshrub, somewhat lignified at the base. Stems generally prostrate (often reaching 50 cm), with long hairs. Leaves linear or lanceolate, with a very short petiole, glabrous on the upper surface and bearing fine whitish hairs on the underside. Corolla campanulate, bluish or lilac (sometimes very pale), on long peduncles similar in length to the adjacent leaf. Fruit spherical, glabrous, and smaller than the sepals
Observations: Within C. valentinus, subsp. valentinus is distinguished from subsp. suffruticosus by generally narrower and longer leaves, and by the presence of a sparse indumentum over the entire plant, consisting of erect-patent hairs, which is much denser in subsp. suffruticosus
