Characteristics: Quite a loose shrub, with a trunk covered in leaves at the base; the flowering stalks are erect and quite long. It has leaves which are deeply divided into lobules, the capitula have maroon flowers, the involucre of the capitulum is strangled at the top, it has no bristles, as often happens in Centaurea. This plant lives in cracks in shady walls.
