Habitats: Meso-xerophyll mountain fields. Mesophyll mountainous grasslands.

Characteristics: Especially in meosphilic and meso-xerophilic pastures and more rare in forest clearings, rock outcrops etc. Preferably on silicic soils. A perennial plant with stems square on the cross-section. The leaves are opposite and linear, and form a sheath 3 times lage than ample. The flowers are disposed in dense clusters (with 2-8 flowers), with long lanceolate bracts. The bracts of the calycle are obovate, abruptly awned with a scarious margin. The flowers have truncated petals, not very deeply dentate and pilose at the throat.
