Characteristics: Hedges and forest wetlands (especially along riverbanks) and above all in shady places and ravines. A tree, sometimes very small but can reach 5 m in height, with young branches reddish in colour. Leaves are opposite, ovate-elliptic and with 3-5 pairs of arched nerves. The flowers are disposed in corymbform inflorescences. The fruit is a round drupe, turning black with maturation.
