Habitats: Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches). Mesophyll mountainous grasslands.
Characteristics: Cool forest clearings, mesophilic grasslands, marshy rushlands, moist grasslands, etc. An herb with leaves entire, at times auriculate at the base. The involucre is formed by terminal bracts in a brown, pectinate appendage. The capitula bear pink or purple flowers, the outer ones larger and more radiant. The achenes are generally lack pappus.
