Habitats: Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches).

Characteristics: In flooded terrains, whether they are temporal or permanent: steam beds, wet hollows, etc. A rhizomatous plant that bears two types of spikes, one single male and various females. These later are ovoid, dense and grouped at the stem apex. The inferior bract of the inflorescence is well developed. The utricles are trigonal, densely covered with down and lack a beak.
