Habitats: River forests.

Characteristics: Riparian forests, in so much alderwoods as poplarwoods. A caespitose plant with intense green leaves, shorter than the stem, which is strongly trigonal. The inferior bract has a well-developed sheath. Bears male and female spikes, each in a different manner: the females are pendulous, 5-7 cm in length. The utricles are glabrous, trigonal and greenish with a beak. Differs from subsp. sylvatica as its leaves are wider than 6 mm, stems are straight and tall (more than 80 cm), 2-7 male spikes and the female spikes do not exceed the sheath.

Observations: A Catalan-Agrelian endemic.
