Characteristics: Especially in mountain pond banks, where it tends to establish monospecific populations, and also springs and stream banks. A rhizomatous plant with leaves light green, 2-6 mm in width and often canaliculated. Has various male and female spikes, both are different in form. The glumes are shorter than the utricles. These are trigonal, swollen, glabrous and with a short beak.
