Habitats: Pine wood and shrubland with rosemary and thyme garigue.
Characteristics: Rosemary thickets and dry pastures, as well as forest clearings (pineries, oak grooves'). A ceaspitose plant very similar to A. bromoides, of which it differentiates by its callus with large hairs that exceed the glumulle base. Can be distinguished from other species by its leaves, generally convolute at the basal portion, and flat for the apical portion, and by the absence of pilosity at the spikelet rachis.
Observations: A. pratensis is a very polymorphic species, and numerous infraspecific taxons have been described.
