Habitats: Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches).

Characteristics: Moist grasslands in shady and nitrificated locations. A robust plant with large basal leaves (up to 80 cm in length). Produces paniculiforme inflorescences, which bear large capitula (15-35 mm in length). The involucral bracts are typically hooked. Can be distinguished from A. chaberti by having capitula ± with long peduncles and by the absence of glands at the outer floral neck.
