Characteristics: Frequents mesophilic and xeromesophilic grasslands, although can also be found in moors and other formations. Prefers silicic or acidified soils. A perennial grass, characterized by its lax and open panicle, with spikelets some 2-4 mm and the well developed superior glumella. Can be distinguished from Agrostis castellana as it forms a ligule more wide than long and wide leaves (2-4 mm) non convolute.
