Characteristics: An annual plant, only slightly branched, scabrous or scratchy to the touch because of its short rigid hairs. The stems are square, reddish and can produce aerial roots at the nodes. Leaves are sessile, obovate an ovate and with an entire margin. Flowers are axils with a pitcher shaped floral tube, with twelve well marked, hirsute nerves.
