Characteristics: Can be distinguished from the characteristic subspecies as the cauline leaves are attenuated at the base (the widest part of the leaf is above the basal zone) and the calyx segments are trienervate (normally the characteristic subspecies perfoliata are unienervate) and twice as large as the tube.
Observations: Usually found in saline soils.
