Characteristics: An herbaceous climbing plant (up to 200 cm.). Leaves are alternate, composite, and end in branching tendrils. The stipules are very large with a slightly serrate base. The flowers are also fairly large and are usually white in colour. The fruit is in the form of a legume or pod, turning yellowish when mature, with 6 to 10 seeds. Can de differentiated from the subspecies elatius, by its smooth or laviolate seeds, larger stipules and wider fruit.
