Description: Tree reaching 15 m in height, with a narrow crown and smooth and greenish-grey bark. Narrow, hanging branches. Buds are sticky and give off an odour. Leaves rhomboid, wider at the upper portion. Measure 5-12 cm in length, 3-8 cm in width. The obverse is shiny dark green while the reverse side pale or whitish green. Margin is finely serrate. Petiole is 1.5 to 2.5 cm in length, shorter and redder that the leaves of the larger branches. Male catkins are 2-3 cm in length, flowers having 8 stamens. Female catkins 3-6 cm in length, with flowers with 2-3 stigmas.
Observations: Cultivated specie in gardens.
