Habitats: Cultivated fields, path and road sides, disturbed zones. Herbaceous communities.

Characteristics: A good-sized perennial Umbelliferae that renews its annual parts each year, has very large basal leaves, more than a half metre in length and deeply lobed. A robust stem that grows erect, up to two metres in height, supports the umbels. The umbels are also large, with rigid radii that open forming a semi spherical structure. The fruits have a smooth pilose covering. The physiognomy of the plant, taken from a distance, greatly resembles Ferula communis, for its dimensions, although its white flowers and broad leaves are a quick give-away. Lives along roadsides and garrigues in slightly wet areas. Flowers from April to May.
