Characteristics: Of the genus Phalaris, this has to be one of the smallest. The inflorescence, like the entire genus, is compact and positioned atop of the upright stems. A characteristic to identify this species is the collar of the superior leaf, swollen and close to the inflorescence, Phalaris canariensis is similar in appearance, but differs in its floral characteristics. (Phalaris minor toothed keel, while Phalaris canariensis does not). Flowers during the spring.
