Characteristics: An herbaceous plant. Stems are round and leaves are glabrous and with long peduncles, opposite, ovate and a very bright green in colour. Flowers are also with long peduncles with the petals shorter than the sepals. Differs from D. pallida as this later species has flowers without petals and the leaves are smaller and light coloured.

Observations: The classifications of this species, like the majority of the small sized Cariophylaceae, always deserve verification with a botanical key.
