Characteristics: When this plant is in flower it is unmistakable, because it is an aquatic plant with large, yellow flowers. It lives in canals and along the sides of moist areas, but in relatively fresh water. The sword-shaped leaves are long; they can reach one metre and a half approx. If it is not in flower it could be mistaken for the leaves of Typhaceae; we will differentiate it because the leaves of Iris have a well defined nerve (carinate) whereas the Typhaceae have a uniform leaf surface, without this carinate nerve.
