Habitats: Xero-acanthic shrubs of the mountanous regions, and steppe-grasslands of Ampelodesmos mauritanica. Rocky surfaces and dry stone walls. Rocky outcrops and steep high-mountain habitats on exposed calcareous soils.
Characteristics: Small shrub of cushion-like habit, forming very dense tufts. Leaves 4-12 × 1 mm, linear-lanceolate, all very close together, with scarcely any internodes, the older leaves inclined toward the base. Flowers usually solitary at the branch ends; calyx with 5 equal teeth, slightly shorter than the tube; corolla 6-12 mm, with yellow petals, fused at the base into a tube and with 5 elliptic lobes at the top.
