Habitats: River forests. Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches). Rushbeds and reedbeds, along the banks of rivers and streams, on very moist soils and in cool mountain environments.
Characteristics: Herbaceous perennial plant, dark green and covered with short hairs. Stem up to 150 cm, erect, branched in the upper half. Leaves ovate-lanceolate, petiolate, arranged in whorls of 3 or 4. Inflorescence 20-30 cm, with pedicellate flowers; calyx bearing five triangular teeth with purplish margins; corolla showy, composed of 5 elliptic petals, bright yellow in color. Fruit a globose capsule.
