Habitats: Xero-acanthic shrubs of the mountanous regions, and steppe-grasslands of Ampelodesmos mauritanica. Meso-xerophyll mountain fields. Perennial grasslands of cool mountain areas, on skeletal calcareous soils.
Characteristics: Perennial, tufted plant. Leaves linear, the inner ones narrower, less than 1 mm wide, the outer ones somewhat broader (1-2 mm). Stems erect, 8-30 cm, glabrous, with condensed terminal inflorescences. Involucral bracts straw-colored, the inner ones usually notched at the apex. Flowers tubular, generally white.
