Characteristics: Flooded places like marshes, springs, stream banks, ponds, rushlands, etc. A caespitose plant with very thin stems (0.5-1 mm). The spikelets are brown, 4-10 mm and have 7-11 flowers. Differs from E. palustris as its sheath is obliquely truncate and the nutlets are longitudinally striated.
