Characteristics: Very wet or shady forests, above all riparian forests as well as beechwoods, hazelwoods, etc. A caespitose plant with leaves soft and narrow (1-2 mm in width). The inflorescence is long (8-20 cm) and lax, with the inferior spikes separated by a space of some 3-7 cm. All spikes have a similar appearance; they bear the female flowers at the apex.
